Video Game Track Bracket Round 5
Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection from Kirby: Planet Robobot

vs.
Production Destruction from Hi-Fi Rush

Propaganda under the cut. If you want your propaganda reblogged and added to future polls, please tag it as propaganda or otherwise indicate this!
Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection*:
this is a long one (~8 minutes) but my god is it so good. i don't even really know how to adequately explain the in-game context this song(s) play in, but it fits perfectly and i would argue this is the best final boss theme the kirby series has had (although i don't think i've really properly listened to forgotten land's one, so i might be biased). i don't really have anything else to say aside from "just listen for yourself" but if i was well educated in music theory and terminology you can bet your ass i'd be writing a full analysis rn
*[Mod note: The original video submitted was a combination of this track and Vagrant Keepsake of Oblivion, a variation on it. This was pointed out to me and the track name and video were updated, so the propaganda is not 100% accurate (specifically the reference to the track length).]
Production Destruction:
It's just. So so good. It starts pretty simple with the parts that play as you're just walking around the level, nothing too exciting. Nice little rock track. You get to the parts that play during normal battles and you think "okay this is pretty good, headbop level but not quite a banger." And then 3:15 hits. And all of a sudden you HAVE to air guitar to it. It's the law. Does it get a little repetitive? Maybe. But it really makes you feel like you're kicking ass so who cares

Todays Raft: 09:12 PM - 01/04/2024
Raft Ride but it's only the intro looping
Season 7 Ridden on: Rips of Christmas Present
Raft by minindo
youtube
What a misleading title!!! I mean, its kind of true - but the intro being looped is the main theme to Kirby: Planet Robobot, the crux of the entire channel's lore!! Yes, it is just 9 seconds, it is exactly what it says on the tin - but its a decently complex arrangement given what you'd otherwise expect, I really like how it all came together. I'd LOVE a full P-R-O-G-R-A-M Raft Ride down the line if at all possible lol

I think what makes Kirby lore so unique(besides presentation) is how it’s built on over time, but not in any clear-cut pattern that you can figure out and predict. It keeps itself vague and open ended enough to allow for creativity, and leaves room for information to be added later. Importantly, it does that without feeling like new stuff exists just to continue the old.
Nova is a good example of how this kind of thing happens from start to current times. Nova starts out as just a powerful mechanical being that exists in space and grants wishes, but we know nothing else about them. KSSU came along and left the potential for some connection between them and Galacta Knight, a mysterious, powerful warrior who sealed away out of fear and is accompanied a visual implication that they were violent/destructive. Return to Dreamland comes out and has obscure dialogue from Magolor that confirms there are more of the type of being Nova is, referring to them as clockwork stars, and reveals they(and the Lor, who is maaaybe sentient but who knooooows*) were made by a mysterious group known just as the Ancients. Galacta Knight also makes an unexplained return here which is never explained, and there’s concept art of funny egg who would never lie to anyone that just straight up namedrops Christianity, “but surely that won’t be important beyond the directly stated symbolism of yellow = betrayal” thought everyone including me.
Years later, seemingly out of nowhere, Planet Robobot just straight up introduces another clockwork star in the form of Star Dream(or the Access Ark if you’re like me and see them as semi-separate entities), confirming the previous information and giving the concrete possibility that Nova was also sapient(in case the very obviously shocked expression they give when Meta Knight makes his wish wasn’t enough indication), and also oh hey everyone’s favorite magenta murder orb is back because Star Dream fucked around and found out! Star Allies goes on to elaborate a bit on those Ancients and Galacta Knight, with the reveal that the Ancients likely consisted of multiple different people groups and one might have banished another. There’s side material that heavily implies GK was a hero that casts doubt on the previous idea that they were sealed for purely defensive reasons(but we aren’t telling you for sure), the funny boat from RtD may or may not have connections to some place called Paradise(but we’re not telling you for sure), and Kirby has some connection to an ancient godlike entity of destruction(but we’re not telling you what it is). Return to Dreamland Deluxe becomes a thing and clarifies that yes the boat is sentient actually who would’ve thought*, but we’re not gonna elaborate on what she’s like at all, also hey remember that Magolor concept art with yellow in it, yeah we’re leaning into the biblical symbolism now check out this cool tree that people on the internet will definitely be normal about.
*I did the whole time and will never stop pointing and laughing maniacally at everyone who ever gave me shit for it
What makes it so fun is that all of these connections are super easy to miss out on, or at the very least it all lacks the same impact if you don’t have some idea of previous information. Star Dream/Access Ark would probably just come off as weird and nonsensical to someone who played Robobot with no knowledge of Super Star. Lor = Paradise is just a word translation if you don’t know about the boat, and Galacta Knight is kinda just A Guy Who Exists Apparently without KSSU. Maybe you played KSSU before Robobot, though, so you can point and go “oh hey the evil computer is actually like that weird cat clock from before!” “wadda hell GK back????” and appreciate the callbacks, but otherwise not see a huge amount of significance. If you played KSS(U) and RtD with attention to detail, you could infer that these people called the ancients built the weird cat clock as well as a magical boat. If you played all four games(KSS(U), KRTD, KPR, KSA) and payed close attention to the connections between them, you can have fun with the fact that a group called the Ancients created multiple sentient machines capable of bending reality to varying degrees, the sentient boat has implied ties to Paradise while the two clocks interacted with a possibly ex-hero(even possibly wrongfully imprisoned hero) the Ancients wanted to get rid of for one reason or another, and we don’t know where these people went or what else they were capable of or who else they’ve impacted one way or another.
And you never know what’s gonna be elaborated on next! If the lil butterfly that showed up a few times was revealed to be the fuckin grim reaper essentially, what else is gonna gain entirely new implications? Given the existence of Void Termina and their ties to Dark Matter, will we finally get more information about what their whole situation was? Also the powerful orbs?
On a related note, I feel like this is a reason why Forgotten Land didn’t really hit for me in the long run(though far from the biggest reason but I’m still trying to move past that whole situation). It’s a good game, but feels disconnected from everything else in a lot of ways. Sure, you have callbacks in the form of a couple songs, stage design reminiscent of Kirby 64, and Morpho Knight, but that stuff’s just kinda… hollow. There’s not much of a thread between it any everything else, nothing that was built on previously established information or that hints at possible connections to be drawn. It doesn’t even take place in the same world. I guess it’s like, I dunno… The only reason it has any relation to Kirby is because Kirby and co got dragged through a random portal at the beginning. Other than a line of dialogue that has a million different potential valid interpretations that include some involving Dreamland, there’s nothing else concrete. It isn’t like the Mirror World or Halcandra, which are different worlds yet have established relevance to the series as a whole. It isn’t the same as places like Patchland or Seventopia, which, sure, weren’t super connected, but also weren’t exactly in games hyped up to be significant for the series and have way better character designs overall imo but thats just my humble onion. It literally feels more like a game that was its own thing turned Kirby game than Epic Yarn, which was literally its own thing that was turned into a Kirby game later.
I dunno how to end this off I just got thinking and wanted to spit my thoughts out before they disappeared into the void. I wonder how that anon who called The Claykken a dilf is doing these days, I bet they would love Splatoon

Kirby Planet Robobot Translation Comparison: Meta Knightmare Returns
This will be a comparison of the original Japanese version and the US English localized version.
Specifically, this will cover all the cutscenes that appear in the Meta Knightmare Returns mode.
You can also watch these cutscenes for yourself in English (1, 2, 3) and Japanese (1, 2, 3).
For the comparison, the usual points apply:
Bolded is the original Japanese text, for the reference.
Bolded and italicized is my translation.
Italicized is the official NOA translation.
A (number) indicates that I have a specific comment to make on that part in the translation notes.
As you read this, please keep in mind that with translations like these, it’s important not to focus on the exact literal wordings, since there is no single “correct answer” when it comes to translations.
Rather than that, consider the actual information that is being conveyed, in which way, and why.

Translation Note:
I’ll go over it in more detail in the section below, but the term I translated as “Another Dimension Road” is called 異空間ロード/Ikūkan Rōdo in Japanese. This term previously appeared in the Japanese version of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land.
--
Comparisons & Thoughts:
Since the cutscenes of Meta Knightmare Returns all occur towards the end and are pretty short, I decided to cover all of them in one post like this.
Still, just because they’re short doesn’t mean there is nothing to talk about.
-
It’s only mentioned briefly in these cutscenes, but I want to go over the term I adapted as “Another Dimension Road” in slightly more detail.
In the original Japanese version, the term is 異空間ロード/Ikūkan Rōdo, which first appeared in the Japanese version of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land.
To start off, 異空間/Ikūkan by itself could be translated as something like “different dimension", “different space”, “different realm”, or anything along those lines, 異/i meaning “different”, and 空間/kūkan meaning “space” or “dimension”, and the like.
This term has come up a few times in the Kirby series since Return to Dream Land, and the Japanese version of Star Allies actually gives it the English reading “Another Dimension”, which is why I also like to adapt it as that.
The term 異空間ロード/Ikūkan Rōdo, adding the English word “road” to it, also comes up a few times in Return to Dream Land.
Given what I explained above, I like to adapt it as “Another Dimension Road”.
Magolor mentions this term when he talks about his home, saying that it’s far away, but that it’s connected to Pop Star via 異空間ロード/Ikūkan Rōdo.
The English localization of the game adapted this as “interdimensional tunnel” in this instance.
Also, the cutscene that is called “Final Battle” in the English version is simply called 異空間ロード/Ikūkan Rōdo in Japanese.
Going by that, it seems safe to assume that this term can refer to the “road(s)” that connects different dimensions, realms, or the like.
Now, there is a lot more I could potentially talk about with these two terms and how they come up in the Kirby series, but it would be too long for this section here.
I might make a dedicated post just for that at some point, if that would interest people.
So, most relevant to Planet Robobot, is the fact that “Another Dimension Road” is a term we had seen before in Return to Dream Land.
The English version might be trying to keep the connection to Return to Dream Land by adapting the term as “Extra-dimensional road“ here, possibly referring to the Extra Mode of that game.
-
Back to Planet Robobot, here’s something potentially interesting about Star Dream in these cutscenes.
You’ll find that in both Japanese and English it uses about the same speaking style as it did during its appearance in the main story.
And the English version actually adapts it in the same way as it did back then, so I appreciate the consistency there.
Like before, the English version has it use some more computer-like sounding phrases here, like saying “admin” instead of “master”.
Most notable as a change is probably the phrase “Sword_Master.EXE”, which would imply that Star Dream might have a dedicated program just for either cloning Dark Matter Blade, or sword users in general.
But what’s really interesting to me is something else.
Now, I don’t know if this is just a coincidence, but Star Dream does not refer to itself in first person at any point in these cutscenes
With the way the Japanese language works, this isn’t all too uncommon, but it still stands out a bit, because Star Dream referring to itself in first person during the main story was a notable trait it had.
A machine wouldn’t normally refer to itself like that, so Star Dream doing that seemed like a result of it gaining a sense of self during those events.
And keep in mind that those events, namely Star Dream fusing with Hatlmann’s spirit, don’t actually occur during the story of Meta Knightmare, meaning Star Dream actually should not have a sense of self in this scenario.
So, Star Dream not referring to itself in first person during these cutscenes could be meant to reflect that? But that’s just my guess.
In any case, because of the above, I decided to adapt its dialogue in these cutscenes without using any first person either.
And from what I can tell, it looks like the English localization may have thought the same thing, since they also don’t use any (singular) first person for Star Dream here.
I realize this means there isn’t any difference between versions when it comes to this aspect, but I still wanted to mention it, because it’s easy to miss.
-
In the Japanese version, Star Dream’s dialogue here contains more direct references to Milky Way Wishes, with it using several of the same phrases that Galactic Nova used.
Most notably, this includes it counting down from 3 and finishing the counter with the words “Go!!”, which is also referenced during its boss battles.
In the English version, these phrases are slightly rewritten and don’t match Galactic Nova’s dialogue from either English version of Milky Way Wishes, with the countdown in particular ending with “Begin!” instead.
As a result, that final line also no longer matches the visuals of Star Dream’s final boss battle.
If you only look at the text in this game right here, it does make sense to rewrite these phrases slightly, “Begin!” certainly sounds more appropriate than “Go!!” out of context.
But this, combined with the fact that any other subtle reference to Milky Way Wishes in the text so far has been glossed over in English makes me think that the English localizers either didn’t realize that these were references, or ended up ignoring them for some reason.
Whatever said reason may be, I still think it’s a shame, because when you add all of them up, there is a great deal of connections to Milky Way Wishes in this game’s text that are lost in the English version, leaving it only with the visual and musical references.
And those are still nice, don’t get me wrong, but it still feels like you’re missing out just a little.
-
Somewhat related to the above, Star Dream’s reasoning for its actions in these cutscenes is quite different between versions, changing a lot about the context of what is happening.
In the Japanese version, Star Dream seemingly comes to the conclusion that Meta Knight wishes to fight strong opponents. So, the reason why it proceeds to summon several powerful warriors is specifically because it is attempting to comply with that desire.
And that really seems to be all there is to it in the Japanese version, no apparent additional motivation other than to satisfy its new master Meta Knight.
At most you can speculate whether or not Meta Knight really was actively wishing for this to happen, or if Star Dream was misinterpreting him, but...
Considering this is a direct parallel to Meta Knightmare Ultra, and Meta Knight did wish for something exactly like that over there, I’d wager it’s safe to bet Star Dream’s assessment of him was at least partially accurate.
And of course, this also gives Star Dream another direct parallel to Galactic Nova.
In the English version, Star Dream instead states that Meta Knight has to supply his credentials, and thus all the battles that follow are portrayed as “tests” for Meta Knight.
This also implies that Star Dream would probably test any potential new admin in such a manner, in contrast to the Japanese version, where Star Dream seems to accept Meta Knight right away without question.
I know that this particular change has caused English-speaking fans to speculate what sort of test Haltmann may have had to pass, which can be interesting of course.
But for the reference, no such tests seem to exist in the Japanese version.
-
And still related to the above, in the English version, Star Dream states that Meta Knight must supply his credentials “to the strongest warriors of this planet”, which might even be a small translation error?
Because in the Japanese version, Star Dream only states that Meta Knight will have the opportunity to “CLASH with a sword USER… WHO possesses CONSIDERABLE strenGTH… even for THIS planet”, so that latter part is only referring to the clone of Dark Matter Blade.
There is no clear plural in Japanese, so one could interpret the Japanese line as referring to all three warriors that Star Dream ends up summoning, but since it gives a little introduction for Sectonia Clone and Galacta Knight, I think it’s more likely this line right here was just its introduction for Dark Matter Clone.
The English phrasing also makes you wonder why Star Dream would even summon Galacta Knight, who’s not taken from this planet, or even this era for that matter.
It just kinda doesn’t add up when you think about it more.
-
And that’s about it for these cutscenes.
The most notable change is the completely different reasoning behind Star Dream’s action here.
I personally feel it gives this entire ending scenario a different vibe, and potentially the implication of what Meta Knight’s role in it is, considering the parallels to Meta Knightmare Ultra.
With that, we have covered all of the cutscenes of Kirby: Planet Robobot, but we are not done quite yet.
There is still more story to this game, so for the next part, we will start tackling the pause screen descriptions of the boss fights!
Feel free to check it out!

The days of early CCC hold a very special place in my heart, since it was the first time that I became fully invested in the channel. Prior to that, while I had sought out the Reboot storyline and experienced the surprise posthumous (at the time) Halloween event, I was only a casual viewer, and a relatively new one at that, only really subscribing after the channel had seemingly ended. Despite this, once the CCC began and the first few lore videos dropped, I was immediately hooked. I think it was mostly due to the obvious parallels between Planet Robobot, which was (and still is) both my absolute favorite Kirby game and probably my GOTY for 2016. That combined with a storyline that continued off of the Reboot and Halloween's plot points, and a dystopian wintertime aesthetic, really captured my attention, and made me pay more attention to the channel, leading to me eventually learn how to make rips.
As such, by the time I had joined the channel in 2018, I wanted to pay tribute to this specific era of the channel. I knew I wanted to make something that felt right out of that initial Christmas event, even down to wanting to use a track that somehow tapped into both the Winter and Robot themes that had defined early CCC's rips. I ended up finding Trail on Powdery Snow from Mega Man Zero 3, which not only fit both of the aforementioned themes, but was also a banger in its own right.
Once I knew which song I wanted to use, I decided to have two distinct loops: One which utilized sources which were either frequently used or newly introduced in December 2016, and a second loop consisting of more iconic/traditional Christmastime-related songs. Of course, I wanted to go the extra mile as well, so I threw in some non-melodyswap jokes for the third loop for good measure, even reaching out to Grambam to see if he could do an additional HHGregg section.
I think the only two things that I regret with this rips are 1. This came at a time where I was trying to force Close Your Eyes from G-Senjou no Maou as a running source, something that I tried to steer away from after Season 3 ended. While that song did appear a small number of times in Dec. 2016, it does feel shoehorned and out-of-place compared to all of the more recognizable/fitting sources in that loop. 2. A section in the third loop ended up deadnaming someone. I don't think they actually came out until the year after, it still hasn't aged all too well in that regard.
Aside from those two issues, I'm still relatively proud with this one, and think it hold up better than most of my other 2018 rips.
Todays rip: 08/10/2023
Trail on Powdery Snow Halation
Season 3 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume AI Also on: Dr. Pavel's How the Grinch Took Over SiIvaGunner
Ripped by Jiko Music, Grambam36
youtube
As we speak, SiIvaGunner is currently in its 7th season. Officially dubbed "The Year of Grand Dad", its aim has largely been to reminisce over the channel's history up to this point, remixing and rearranging tons of its old favorites to celebrate the funny number milestone. As long-time viewers will be aware, though, this is *far* from the first time the channel has celebrated its own legacy, and it likely won't be the last.
I feel like Season 3 was the first time that you could tell things were truly changing with the SiIvaGunner channel, as it was really the first time the channel operated without an expected direction. Season 1 operated on the element of surprise, and gradually became a ping-pong back-and-forth between the creator and the audience, which in turn resulted in dynamic story events like The Reboot. Season 2, meanwhile, built on that to launch a full-scale story with the Christmas Comeback Crisis, which ballooned in scope as to sort of hang over the entire season - even more lore and added story elements kept being added, be it the Inspector Gadget takeover as discussed in Become as Gadget or the bizarre rise of AMUNO, and it carried on at full force for the entire season. By the time Season 3 arrived, the CCC and lore in general felt a little like it had run out of steam - so much had already been done that it was understandable for the SiIva team to want something of a break.
Season 3, in turn, wound up being one of the most interesting seasons in the channel's life in my eyes, through the sort of mysterious vibe it held throughout. Lore villain of Season 2 seemed to, mysteriously, no longer be controlling the channel: instead, the SiIvaGunner we all knew and loved appeared to be back in the reigns...somehow. The lore progressed, but through mysterious datafiles detailing additional worldbuilding and a summary of the events of the prior two seasons. And, most importantly of all - several rips uploaded began feeling strangely nostalgic.
According to the rip's primary creator, Jiko Music, Trail on Powdery Snow Halation was specifically made as a callback to 2016's style of rips (that is to say, Season 1 and early Season 2). It specifically slots in perfectly with the early Season 2 Holiday rips that initially premiered the Christmas Comeback Crisis - its a melody-swap medley of several channel memes and popular christmas tunes, all in the instrumentation of Trail on Powdery Snow from Mega Man Zero 3. And like, just from that description this rip was bound to strike a chord with me - I love Mega Man Zero with all of my heart, I adore Season 2 of SiIvaGunner, and I was already enamored with Season 3's fascinating ways of paying tribute to the channel's past. It was rarely in-your-face about it, even during the loud and clear "Nostalgia Critic Takeover" - it was like you'd just been transported back to an older time, both with the styalistic direction of rips like this one and with the bevvy of old rips being remastered or reuploaded.
Releasing near the end of the year (and, unbeknownst to us, near the channel's sudden termination per copyright), Trail on Powdery Snow Halation is a rip I hold a lot of memories with. I really think Jiko Music achieved their goal with the direction of the rip - its a true trip down memory lane, yet one that feels immensely earned and doesn't bolster it as something overtly sentimental in the same way the File Select Fusion Collab did. If you, like me, get nostalgic and feel your heart tugged by this rip, its entirely due to your own memories.

There’s a trend with the newer Kirby games to call the final boss theme in Kirby by the first initials from each World, like in Return to Dreamland it’s called C-R-O-W-N-E-D; in Triple Deluxe, it’s called F-L-O-W-E-R; in Planet Robobot, it’s called P-R-O-G-R-A-M. I bet my money that Star Allies is gonna call the next one F-R-I-E-N-D-S.

Everything was fun and games with Kirby Planet Robobot until I unlocked the True Arena and stayed up until 4 am trying to beat it.... AND I DID IT! (I tried to beat it with Mirror but just gave up with the Dedede clones and went Archer. Also f*****g Star Dream Soul OS and his insta-kill Fatal Error).

22. Do you wear game related clothing/accessories?
I have very little gaming clothes/accessories, mostly because i get very embarrassed when wearing them in public. They’re mostly stuff for pajamas, and i don’t usually go out and seek them either. They’re gifts!

Right now, I currently have around 8+, counting the DS’? I still have my original DS and a DS Lite, 3DS and Max 3DS and my Gameboy SP is still around somewhere. PS4, Wii U, Wii

34. Do either of your parents play video games?
I taught my mom how to play COD when I was younger and she actually turned out pretty okay! She also LOVES Mario Kart, and she actually introduced me to it/taught me how to play 64 back when we had a Nintendo 64. We play Double Dash all the time, as it is her favorite. She’s very good.

First game I cried over was Ghost Trick, it’s been a downhill battle ever since with video games.
I think I sweat when I play Overwatch every time because of Stressful Lucio Situations.
